Cork Social Housing Forum one of the best for Best Practices in Social Integration.
Cork Social Housing Forum responded to an online survey of Social Integration in Action, undertaken by the NGO Committee for Social Development in New York, with the support of the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service.
There were 190 responses from 62 countries. Cork Social Housing Forum was one of 14 examples of best practices selected for the publication, Social Integration in Action: Stories from the Grassroots, to download document click here.
According to the NGO Committee the 190 best practices described in the survey responses were examples of the selfless and heartening work performed by thousands of people in countries around the world. In examining the best practices for social integration/inclusion, outstanding examples were found to contain most or all of five criteria:
1. The best practices benefit the larger society as well as the direct recipients.
2. The best practices are community-based.
3. The beneficiaries are actively involved in the programme as participants not just as recipients.
4. The best practices are sustainable.
5. The best practices are reproducible.

The Committee went on to say that these five characteristics provide a road map of the type of projects that are successful in the area of social integration/inclusion and that should be supported by policy makers, legislators and all those who are dedicated to social integration/inclusion.
